“Govinda Naam Mera” or GNM, was marketed as a comedy thriller but unfortunately, it fell short in delivering on both fronts. The film follows the life of Govind A. Waghmare (played by Govinda), whose life is spiraling out of control in all 8 directions. Things take a turn for the worse when his wife is killed, and Govind is thrust into a world of mystery and intrigue as he tries to uncover the truth behind her murder.
The first half of the film is slow-paced and fails to build up the necessary tension and suspense. The comedy, which is supposed to be a major aspect of the film, is forced and falls flat. The only saving grace in this half is Renuka Shahane’s portrayal of Govind’s mother, who brings some much-needed humor to the film, particularly in a scene where she interrupts a lawyer’s testimony in court.
The second half of the film is where things finally start to pick up. There are a number of twists and turns, which keep the audience engaged, but these twists are not introduced smoothly and can feel abrupt. The comedy, unfortunately, still does not work well except for a few scenes with Govind’s mother and the maidservant.
The climax of the film is similar to that of Double Dhamaal, and as a result, does not feel particularly exciting or original.
In terms of performances, Vicky in a comedic role, is decent but needs better dialogues. Bhumi is decent and Kiara is good too. Renuka Shahane is the standout performer of the film and is the only one who brings any real comedy to the film. A cameo appearance is exciting and adds a new layer to the film.
Overall, “Govinda Naam Mera” is an average film with a few interesting moments, but ultimately falls short in delivering on its promises of being a comedy thriller. The film is only worth a one-time watch, and even then it may be better to skip it.

Govind “Govinda” Waghmare, also known as Govya or Govindya (Vicky Kaushal), is a backup dancer in Mumbai who aspires to become a choreographer. He has a strained relationship with his wife Gauri (Bhumi Pednekar), and wants to divorce her to be with his girlfriend Suku, who is also a dancer. However, Gauri demands that he first pay her 2 crores rupees as compensation for the dowry she brought to the marriage. Gauri has a boyfriend named Baldev, who is an insurance agent.
Govinda’s father, Gopi Vishwakarma, was a famous action director and his mother, Asha Waghmare, was a backup dancer. They fell in love while working together in films and got married. When Govinda was a child, Gopi died in an accident. Charulata and Vishnu Vishwakarma, Gopi’s wife and son from his first marriage, claim that they are the rightful owners of the bungalow that Gopi had left for Govinda and Asha in his will. The Vishwakarma family claim that Gopi’s marriage with Asha was a sham and was just part of a film shooting. This has led to a long-running legal dispute between the two families over ownership of the bungalow. Asha has been pretending to be paralyzed in order to gain sympathy and move the case in their favor.
Desperate for money, Govinda thinks about killing Gauri and obtains a gun from Inspector Javed, an old friend of Gopi’s.
