He manages to get her a job as a maid in Dubai, and wishes to take half of the two lakh rupees she would earn. Tara shares a relationship with Shirley D’Souza, a 1950s actress, who teaches her English. Every day, they walk to the cemetery, where Shirley leaves a red rose on the
grave of her lover Laura. However, he is upset to find out that someone steals his roses every day.
Kamala has a recurring dream of being a Hindu princess in the Mughal era, falling in love with a Muslim prince. One day, she realizes that Salim, another flower seller across the street, has feelings for her. He is a Muslim refugee from Kashmir who moved to Bombay after the death of his parents, and is looking for a decent job. They both love each other, but they never communicate without looking at each other and flowers. Meanwhile, Tara saves Tipu, a deaf orphan, from being arrested by the police for child labor. Kamala allows Tipu to stay with them and is friendly, while her grandfather is initially annoyed by his presence.
One day, Mike watches Kamala and Salim together. That night, she tricks Salim into visiting Pyaasa and reveals Kamala’s identity as one of the dancers. When he meets Kamala and her grandfather to discuss the prospects of opening a toy repair shop, Mike arrives with tickets to Dubai. Kamala tore the tickets and left. When Mike threatens to reveal his identity as a bar dancer, Kamala retorts that the bar she rented is gone, leaving her free. Finally, Kamala and her grandfather are shown setting up a toy and watch shop called “Bombay Rose” with Anthony’s support.
